Websites naturally deteriorate over time – technical issues develop, content bloat starts to affect performance, and overall visibility can start to dwindle. It’s therefore important to carry out regular reviews to highlight any issues before they start to seriously impact your online performance.
We use a SWOT analysis when carrying out website reviews. This empowers you to make informed decisions by capitalising on strengths, addressing weaknesses, seizing opportunities, and mitigating threats. It’s a highly-effective way to take a top-level snapshot of where you should be focusing your resources and budget, plus it can reveal some low hanging fruit for quick gains.
The review we received from Vertical Leap revealed some key technical weaknesses on our website that meant we were being penalised by Google. We were able to fix these and saw a big improvement in visibility.
First, we have a 15-minute chat to understand about your business, what challenges you’re facing with your website and your objectives – this helps us focus the SWOT analysis in areas that are going to be most useful to you. For example, you may want us to focus purely on increasing online visibility, driving better quality traffic or improving conversion rate optimisation throughout the user journey – or all three!
This part of the SWOT focuses ‘internally’ on your website, as opposed to looking at external influential factors. We look at a range of areas such as content, domain authority, backlinks, user journey, trust signals, bounce rates, CTAs etc.
Whilst many of the observations listed in weaknesses will also be opportunities (eg. issues that can be fixed to achieve quick wins), in this part of the SWOT, we also consider what external factors might present opportunities or threats to the success of your digital marketing campaigns. For example, competitors in the search engine results pages (what they are doing better than you, which phrases they are getting visibility for that you are not), industry trends, search engine algorithm updates etc.
Once the SWOT has been completed, we will provide you with a SWOT overview for easy digestion, and also a PDF with further details of key areas for you to incorporate into your digital marketing strategy, usually with some nice quick wins as a bonus! Obviously if you need help implementing any of the recommendations, our 65-strong team of specialists are on-hand to offer support – but if not, that’s fine, there is no commitment to work together.
