VL Digital Limited trading as Vertical Leap (“We”) is committed to protecting your personal data and respecting your privacy. This privacy statement sets out the ways in which we process any personal data we may collect about you when marketing our services to your business, the basis on which we do so and the steps we take to safeguard your data.  

Vertical Leap is a provider of search engine marketing, content, analytics, design and development services and this privacy statement specifically covers our processing activities as a data controller, which is in relation to our marketing activities, such as contacting businesses we believe might benefit from our services.   

All data captured and processed by Vertical Leap will be done so in accordance with the applicable Data Protection Laws, defined herein as the Data Protection Act 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and all other applicable laws and regulations relating to processing of personal data and privacy as amended and replaced, including where applicable the guidance and codes of practice issued by the UK Information Commissioner.

How we gather information about you 

We gather information about you from various sources, which may include:  

  • Directly from you or your business  
  • Received as a referral by our existing clients  
  • Found through publicly available sources  
  • Found online via sites such as LinkedIn or the company’s website  
  • Information from visitors to our website through the use of our contact us webpages or cookies  
  • Information provided to us as a result of attending a show, presentation or a webinar

Who we share your information with 

Vertical Leap may share your data with other companies within The Sideshow Group and sub-processors for them to carry out particular services on our behalf. We have currently appointed the below third-party providers to carry out services:  

 CreditSafe  We may provide your data to Experian for the purposes of receiving more information on the company you work for. This may include, but is not limited to, company revenue, company registered address and Thompson code.  
Hubspot   We may provide your data to Hubspot, the provider of a CRM platform, for the purposes of storing your data and managing our contact with you.  
Productive  We may provide your data to Productive.io, an agency management system, for the purposes of managing your sales deal or project. 
Basecamp  We may provide your data to Basecamp, a project management system, for the purposes of managing your project with us. 
Atlassian/Jira  We may provide your data to Atlassian, team collaboration software, for the purposes of managing your project with us. 
MailChimp  We may provide your data to MailChip for the purposes of requesting a Client NPS score. 
Google  We may provide your data to Google for the purpose of providing access to documents and reports. 
Microsoft  We may provide your data to Microsoft for the purpose of providing access to documents and reports, or communicating with you via Office products. 
Zapier  We may provide your data to Zapier, for the purposes of managing your project with us. 
Xero  We may provide your data to Xero for the purposes of invoicing and accounts queries. 
XodoSign  We may provide your data to XodoSign for the purposes of signing non-disclosure agreements and contracts.

Please note, where Vertical Leap has appointed sub-processors to carry out services on our behalf, we have ensured that they provide at least the same level of protection for your personal data as applied at Vertical Leap and demonstrate compliance with relevant Data Protection Laws. Vertical Leap also ensures that any transfers of personal data outside of the EEA are made in compliance with the requirements of the Data Protection Laws.      

How we use your personal information 

In accordance with the Data Protection Laws, we will only process your personal data where we have a lawful basis for doing so. 

Primarily, Vertical Leap collects, receives and process personal data of individuals in a business context to contact them about our services in which their business may be interested. This information is processed by Vertical Leap in accordance with our legitimate interests.

Please note, your information may be used to send you details of our products and services that we feel may be of interest to you.   

However, you will always have the right to opt-out of receiving marketing material from us and we will always ensure that we screen any databases against the Corporate Telephone Preference Service prior to contacting you.  

If you would like to opt-out of any marketing communications from us or limit the channels in which we contact you (such as email only), please contact us at [email protected]. Please note, we may still contact other individuals within your organisation unless they opt-out specifically.   

Disclosures to other third parties 

Apart from our third party service providers listed above, we will not share your personal data with any other third party without your express consent unless we are obliged to do so by law, or the disclosure is necessary for the purposes of legal proceedings, national security, taxation or criminal investigation; or where we have your consent; or in relation to a takeover, merger or asset sale of our business.    

Your data protection rights 

In line with the Data Protection Laws, you have certain rights in relation to your personal data, although these rights are not absolute and therefore, they will not apply in all circumstances.   

These rights are:  

  • The right to access the personal information we hold about you (commonly known as a data subject access request). This right enables you to receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to check that we are processing this lawfully. There is no charge made for this.  
  • The right to rectification; thismeans that you are able to ask us to correct any information we hold about you that is inaccurate or incomplete.   
  • The right to erasure enables you to request that we delete or remove personal data relating to you where there is no good reason for us to continue processing it. You also have the right to ask us to delete or remove your personal information where you have exercised your right to object to processing (see below).  
  • The right to object to processing of your personal data where we are relying on a legitimate interest (or those of a third party) and there is something about your particular situation which makes you want to object to processing on this ground and where we do not have compelling legitimate interests to override such objection. You also have the right to object where we are processing your personal information for direct marketing purposes.  
  • The right to restrict processing of your personal information; this means we will restrict the processing of your data, for example if you want us to establish its accuracy or the reason for processing it.

How long we will keep your personal information 

We will retain your data to ensure that our information on contacts is up to date.  If you opt-out of marketing we will retain a record of your data to ensure that you do not receive any future marketing from us.  If you have made a request for us to erase your data, we will still store enough information necessary for us to ensure that you are not contacted again; this will be held in a suppression list.
